How to Keep your Garbage Disposal Trouble Free after Christmas 2009
Helpful tips on how to keep garbage disposals trouble free after Christmas 2009
Christmas is a time for celebration, happiness and also garbage disposal clogs. Plumbers report of receiving many emergency calls during Christmas of blocked disposers. Not surprisingly so since Christmas is a time of hard use and abuse of garbage disposals that work on and off in-between big holiday meals.
The following tips will help maintain garbage disposals trouble free after Christmas:
1. Grind small portions of food a time. Overloading may stress the motor of the garbage disposer and increase chances of motor failure.
2. Run disposal with a flow of cold water to solidify food for better blade cutting. After turning off appliance keep on cold water flow for 15 seconds more to flush trapped food particles down the drain.
3. Do not rinse cooking grease down the disposal or grind fibrous food waste that can clog your disposal. By grinding coffee or tea bags you risk damage to the inside of the disposer caused by acid released from them.
4. After use, clean cutting blades by grinding small sized ice cubes. Add citrus peels to the ice grinding for a fresh scented kitchen.
