The Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University (JCHS) reports in the "The Remodeling Market in Transition, 2009" that in deep recession consumers prefer to spend on energy efficient remodeling. Indeed green remodeling in NY is hitting us by storm as consumers realize the potential of energy efficient remodeling to reduce their utility bills.

The above report displays that more and more remodeling consumers are asking for energy efficient home improvements including double glazing windows, solar panels on roofs, and sunrooms. According to Mohsen Mostafavi, dean of the Harvard Graduate School of Design: "The report demonstrates that maximizing energy efficiency in existing housing may be one of our greatest challenges but also one of our greatest opportunities, given that homes account for almost a quarter of energy consumption in our economy. Consumer demand for sustainable design is on the rise. Architects and planners can lead the way in devising appropriate solutions."

Insulation of windows and doors, solar water heaters, solarium additions, and recyclable material are all increasing in demand for home renovations. People understand that energy-efficient remodeling can not only save on money and add value to the house, but also save our environment.
