How to Move Long Distance with a Cat
Learn how to relieve your cat's stress during a long distance move by car
Moving long distance is hard enough without the added stress of having to relocate with your cat. Whether you are the proud owner of a Persian, Siamese, or American Shorthair cat – no cat breed is a big fan of car rides. Normally car rides are not an issue to cat owners - they become one when their moves involve long distance car journeys.
Most cats feel uncomfortable in cars, and can show signs of anxiety during long journeys such as heavy breathing, scratching and loud wailing. Moving Company NJ has moved many people with cats in and out of New Jersey - and has gathered many useful tips on how to move long distance by car with your cat:
1. Your veterinarian can prescribe safe sedatives to relieve your kitty's travel stress during long car journeys. Push medication into a soft food treat so your cat will eat up without resistance. Some sedatives take a long time to take effect - should that happen do not increase dosage without an explicit permission from the vet.
2. Whether you are going for safe sedatives or not – take on your car ride a well ventilated carrier for your cat to travel in. Placing a thin towel over the carrier will create a secure and comfortable environment of darkness and warmth that will work to calm down your cat.
3. Make sure to feed and water the cat during the car journey. Bring extra towels should your cat have a couple of accidents during the ride.
Be attentive to your kitty during long distance relocation by car, and make him/her feel secure and comfortable as much as possible during the journey.
