How to go Green with Security Plans

Security plans do not have to contradict green building design elements but instead can be used to optimize one another

Green building designs and security plans usually clash because eco friendly structures are considered insecure while security devices are thought of as energy wasters. Despite this notion the green revolution is also taking along the locksmith and home security industry. Eco friendly features and security devices are more than ever complementing each other.

Apart from environmentally friendly structures and security plans – the economic downturn is also a prominent issue that restricts green and security budgets. Yet experts in the field state otherwise, in fact by merging our green objective with our security goal we save on money.

Access control security devices can double, with the right technology, as building automation monitors to regulate energy consumption from shutting off unnecessary lights to controlling the main thermostat.

Surveillance cameras monitor human traffic into and out of the building, but with the right sensors can further alert against light pollution, open windows and doors, and leaky fixtures. After working hours, commercial parking facilities are usually left empty, but surveillance is still used to monitor the empty car park. Indeed finding a middle path that will be both green and secure requires the working cooperation of security experts and architects to find the right way to use one to optimize the other and vice versa.
