The Different Types of Baby Safety Monitors
Learn here of the different types of baby safety monitors to protect your child 24/7
Children are the most valuable things we have, following our health. If we could watch them 24/7, many of us would choose to do that. This is definitely true when the child is an infant and needs your care around the clock. When babies are sleeping or in their crib, it is important to give them some time along while still being able to keep an eye on them. This is where baby safety monitors come in. They allow us to be away from baby but to hear them or see them at all times. Aside from baby monitoring devices, child safety gates will go a long way at childproofing homes and protecting young toddlers from an array of falling hazards. But, until they grow into busy toddlers, take a look at the different types of baby safety monitors:
Choices in Baby Safety Monitors
A baby monitor or alarm is a specialized device that has a transmitter that transmits sounds, a camera (on some models) and a receiver that takes the signal and allows you to hear or see your baby at all times. When the baby fusses or cries, it is heard on the receiver so you can then go in and check on the baby. The microphone or camera is located close to the baby so it has the best chance of picking up the sound from the nursery. You carry around the receiver so you can hear the sounds when they occur.
Types of Baby Monitors
There has been an evolution in baby safety monitors over time. It started with a transmitter and a receiver, and has progressed to two way devices, wireless video devices and sensor devices. Audio monitors are the first generation in monitoring. It is a basic monitor that just transmits sound in a one-way fashion. Next came the two-way monitors, which allow for the transmission of sound in both ways. You can soothe your child from a distance using the two-way feature. Babies are often soothed by the sound of your voice and can settle down without your having to go into the nursery.
Video Monitors
The video-type monitor offers a camera and a microphone that is set up in the nursery and goes, via wireless or wired transmission, to a receiver that picks up the sound and sight of the baby. You can see your baby on an LCD screen. Some video monitors use the internet and allow you to see your baby on a computer screen no matter where in the country you happen to be. You can check on the activities of a nanny or caretaker using this method, with multiple cameras possible. Such systems are very expensive but may be worth it for some parents. You get instantaneous feedback from such video systems and can see your baby anytime.
Sensor Safety Monitors
There are sensor monitors that detect movement in the room. A pad is placed under the baby’s pillow or crib sheet and an alarm goes off whenever there is the absence of movement for more than twenty seconds. All of these monitors can be made wireless or wired. The wireless devices are, of course, more portable and are more convenient if you are a parent that moves around a lot. Wireless devices tend to be more prone to interference by radio waves, however, so they can be more problematic, depending on where you live.
