Door security is often forgotten, but security doors are exceedingly important part of home security. While there's nothing wrong with bolstering the security of our windows, we should know that the cases that involve breaking and entering through windows amount to much less than the number of those through doors.

That's to be expected; lest we forget, the easiest way into our homes is through our doors. But criminals aren't to blame for the surprisingly high number of recorded break-ins. We are.

The average residential door, on its own, is not strong enough to withstand forced entry. This is especially true for doors that are purely made of wood. Doors like these can be brought down with a single, powerful strike, or with appropriate tools (crowbars, for example).

So how does this fact make us responsible for the high burglary rate? Because despite this fact being obvious, we choose not to do anything about it.

It should be painfully clear to us that simply locking our doors won't do much to prevent forced entry. We have to better our overall door security by investing in stronger doors (such as those fortified with metal) and installing more security devices. By making it harder for criminals to break in, we can do our part to improve home security and lower the burglary rate.
