ALOA Revises Locksmith Code of Ethics to Combat Shady Operations

ALOA revises Code of Ethics to combat false advertising by shady locksmiths

The Associated Locksmith of America (ALOA) revised its Code of Ethics to combat scam locksmith companies. The ALOA revision tackles false advertising by shady locksmiths across America posing as local service provider when in fact they are out-of-state sting operations. The newly revised Code of Ethics instructs ALOA members to “advertise and conduct business in a non-deceptive manner.”

According to ALOA's executive director, David Lowell: "Scammers entice consumers who need emergency locksmith services with telephone directory and internet ads that give the impression you are calling a local business… These companies manipulate listings with multiple false addresses and phone numbers to make them seem like a neighborhood business. In actuality, the victims frequently are calling out-of-state operations that are not locksmith companies at all. This change to the Code of Ethics and added policy statement will ensure that our members are not participating in this deception. Violation of the Code of Ethics and this policy will require that their continued membership in the organization be reviewed by the Board of Directors."

ALOA certified members are bound by the modified Code of Ethics to publish true contact information regarding their business. This is an attempt by the ALOA to effectively reduce the false ads totting low fee locksmith services that saturate this industry, and consequently minimize encounters of customers with con artists who in effect rob them of their money.

Certified members of ALOA are Locksmith New York providing expert security advice, emergency lockout assistance, and a range of residential and commercial locksmith services to NYC at competitive rates.
